On September 23, 2010 Ford released Technical Service Bulletin #10M05.

The vehicles affected are some 2008 – 2010 F250 and F350 trucks equipped with the 5.4L or 6.8L gas engines.

The concern is that, in some of the affected vehicles, certain operating conditions can cause the catalyst substrate to crack or melt. The symptoms can range from an audible sound to illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). Ford does not go into detail as to the underlying cause of these premature failures.

Always remember, that all Catalytic Converter malfunctions require thorough testing of the engine and it’s components to determine the root cause of the problem before any repairs are made. Also it is illegal to replace the converter with an aftermarket part if the original part is still covered under the EPA (8/80K) or CARB (7/70K) warranty period.

Magnaflow does have federal parts listed however nothing yet for California due to CARB restrictions on model year applications.
